Please select the question below :

How long does a Reiki treatment last?
Typically, a treatment will last for one hour.  However the first session usually will last for 1½ hours due to the initial discussion/introduction.

Will I be laid down for the treatment?
Yes, you will lie down on a treatment couch. Usually with a pillow underneath your head and your knees for added comfort.  You will remain on your back throughout the course of the whole treatment.  However, under certain circumstances, and where it is difficult or painful for you to lie down, you may, if you wish be treated whilst sat up, lying on your side or on your front.

If it is uncomfortable for you to lie on your back, please notify the practitioner before the treatment commences.

Is Reiki like Massage?
No, Reiki is NOT massage. You may feel feather light touches from the practitioners hands at various points on the head, torso and legs.  There is no massaging, no rubbing or pounding.  You may get the feeling of pressure at some points even though the practitioner is not pressing heavily onto you.  This is as a result of the energy flowing strongly.

Where does the practitioner place his hands?
There are various points along your head, torso and legs that the practitioner places his hands.  This usually starts with the shoulders, moving to the crown of your head, your temples, forehead, back of your head, neck area, heart area, your tummy, thighs, calves and ankles.  Some or all of these positions will be  used throughout your treatment, and possibly additional positions.

Will I be touched intimately?
NO. Please do not worry. The practitioner is very careful and mindful to ensure that there is no placing of hands upon any intimate area.  You can rest fully assured that your privacy, respect and dignity will be maintained throughout your treatment session.

Does the practitioner talk to me throughout the treatment?
Prior to the treatment commencing, the practitioner will chat through the planned treatment with you, and answer any questions, concerns or anxieties that you may have.  Once the treatment begins, whilst it is not essential, it is usually carried out in silence, with your eyes closed. There will be meditative soft music playing in the background throughout the session to help create a very relaxing and calm atmosphere.

What if I fall asleep during the treatment?
Do not worry.  This often happens within the first 10 to 15 minutes of a treatment. People tend to drift in and out of sleep, or sleep throughout the whole session because Reiki is such a relaxing experience.  It is not necessary for you to be awake to receive the full beneficial effects of Reiki, so just go with the flow, and allow your body to react in its own way.

Will I be able to drive after my treatment?
Yes, there is no reason why you should not drive after a Reiki treatment. You will be able to do all of the things that you usually do in your day to day life and possibly even more!  You may be a little sleepy when your treatment first ends, due to your body being so relaxed and all of the Reiki energy that you have absorbed.  However, this is very temporary, and before you leave, the practitioner will ensure that you feel fine.

I have a medical condition; will this affect my ability to have Reiki treatments?
There are no contra indications for any medical conditions where Reiki is concerned.  The treatments are purely non invasive and no medications or drugs are ever used.  However, if you feel that you would like to be reassured by your own GP prior to commencing any Reiki treatments, then please discuss it with him/her.

Will Reiki cure my medical condition or long standing problem?
It is very important to remember at all times that Reiki IS NOT a replacement to receiving professional conventional medical care, advice and treatment under any circumstances. Reiki is a complimentary therapy that restores and balances energy levels thus contributing to a persons general well being.  Whilst there are no guarantees given to any client receiving Reiki treatments, many people do claim that their symptoms are dramatically improved, or sometimes even eradicated!  Often clients will report that their chronic aches and pains are much better tolerated and that they feel in general much more rested and calm and able to get on with life much easier. Reiki works on many levels including spiritual, emotional, mental and physical. It is an all embracing form of treatment.

What personal information will be kept about me, and will it remain confidential?
Any information given by you to the practitioner will remain highly confidential.  No information will ever be given to anyone without your express consent.  Minimal records will be maintained, such as your name, age, address and contact details, as well as a brief medical history and information regarding why you decided to try Reiki and the effect that it has had upon you.  This is used mainly so that you can see for yourself how much of an improvement has been made as your Reiki treatments continue.  A note will be made of how you felt before a treatment as well as afterwards. You will be asked to provide feedback on what you experienced throughout the treatment; however, it is entirely at your discretion what information you provide, if any at all.

I have heard that some people cry during a treatment.  Is this true?
Yes.  It is not uncommon for some people to shed a tear or two during a treatment.  Dependant upon what is happening in their lives at the time.  Reiki has a funny habit of finding things that are bothering you, and bringing these to the surface to be dealt with.  There is no need for embarrassment if you do cry, it is perfectly normal.  After saying all of this, many people do not cry during a treatment. Just relax, and go with the flow.

What am I likely to feel during a treatment?
This varies enormously from person to person.  Some common experiences that you may feel are sensations of heat or cold coming from the practitioners hands.  A slight tingling, emotional release, a heavy/weighty feeling in some of your limbs, a sensation of floating or a little light headiness.  You may see vibrant colours, or you may simply feel very little in the way of actual sensations. However, Reiki always works in one way or another, and you will certainly benefit from it on some level.  It may not always be at first apparent, for example ,you may have a pain in your knee, and still go away with a pain in your knee, but the Reiki energy may have found something else that needs to be balanced first, and will work on the highest good and need at the time.

Some people have told me that when they have a Reiki treatment, their symptoms get worse.  Is this true?
It is true that sometimes, for a short period after receiving a Reiki treatment that aches and pains that you may have can become more exaggerated.  However, this is only temporary and often you will notice that after this initial “worsening”, the aches and pains will actually be less than they were before you had Reiki.

Do I need to have regular treatments?
This is entirely up to you, and not always necessary.  A one off treatment will always do something beneficial for you, bringing a sense of calm and peacefulness, and maybe produce some short term physical benefit too.  The effects of Reiki build up cumulatively and having a course of treatments helps to produce long term beneficial changes for you on many levels. The best results are usually achieved by having a course of treatments, maybe 4 – 6 sessions at weekly intervals.

If you have deep seated or severe problems, then a having a course of treatments will always be the most beneficial.  However, there is no pressure placed upon you to have more than one treatment. This is offered to you, and then you decide what is right for you.  One off treatments are good for a “quick fix” a “lift” or a “boost”.

Will Reiki work for me?
YES.  Reiki works for everyone on some level.  Regardless of age, sex, religion or state of health.  The energy flows during a treatment (and continues afterwards) where it is required for the highest good of the individual at that time.  This may be different to what you feel is of the highest good!  This is a strange concept, as you may seek out Reiki to treat a painful knee.  Whilst the pain in your knee may be reduced or eradicated, it may be that the Reiki energy has found something else that it needs to focus upon first, and will deal with that particular area/problem, rather than your knee!

So, is the Reiki Practitioner medically qualified, and is he a healer?
Some Reiki practitioners are medically qualified, and work in the field of traditional medicine, as well as with Reiki.  However, others are not.  It makes no difference whether a Reiki practitioner is medically qualified or not, as the energy will flow where it is required, when it is required! The practitioner is also not really a healer.  He is merely a channel for the energy to flow through from him to you. It is you who draws the energy through the Reiki practitioner; he is simply a necessary bystander in the process.  The treatments are carried out with no pre conceptions of what the outcome will be, other than for the highest good of the individual that is being treated.  The practitioner WILL NOT diagnose or recommend any form of treatment (other than Reiki).

What can Reiki do for me?
Some of the benefits that may be obtained through receiving a course of Reiki treatments are:
Deep relaxation.  Reduced tension and anxiety, boosted energy levels, a feeling of inner calm, contentment and serenity.  Feeling more positive, confident and better able to cope.  Dealing better with stressful people and situations.  It can also accelerate the natural healing process, create a balance and harmony, clarity and focus in daily work.  Encourage self love and compassion towards others as well as easing more physical ailments, therefore contributing to a better quality of life.

Can I have a Reiki treatment done at my own home?
TJReiki will only do home treatments under exceptional circumstances. The treatments are usually carried out at TJReiki’s own private address in the treatment room.  The reason for this is that the treatment works best in a very calm and relaxed atmosphere with as few interruptions as possible.  TJReiki’s treatment room allows for this.  If  treatments are carried out in an individual’s home, then there could be many distractions and interruptions such as dogs barking, telephones ringing, television, and children running around, friends or neighbours wanting to “pop in” for coffee etc.  Whilst all of these are normal day to day distractions, they can detract from the Reiki treatment being most effective.  TJReiki encourages total relaxation, a calming and soothing atmosphere that enables you to be at your most receptive for the Reiki energy.
